Abstract

Problem of the beginning of life and its continuity, expansion of Universe that we live in, and also the nature and extent of cosmos have posed vexed questions before the philosophers, religious leaders as well as scientists in general and physicists or metaphysicists in particular.

The Buddha has very aptly said in the Saṃyuttanikāya, “Inconceivable is the origin, O disciples, of this faring on. The earliest point is not released of this running on, the faring on, of being, cloaked in ignorance, tied by craving.”1

However, Buddhism like Brahmanical and numerous theistic philosophies does believe in Karma theory and concept of various worlds (like heavens and hells). So it seems to be pertinent to discuss cosmos and cosmology first.
