Abstract

Since the early 20th century, the Yangzi River Delta has played a very important role in China’s economy, at the same time, Buddhism has been greatly influencing China’s economic and cultural process. This paper will demonstrate Buddhism’s development in the area of the Yangzi River Delta, also specifically discuss the Humanistic Buddhism that influenced the whole 20th century and exerts a far-reaching influence on the Buddhism belief-system at the beginning of the 21st century. Humanistic Buddhism has had a salutary effect on Pure-land Buddhism, and has become a basic foundation for global Buddhist development in the 21st century, as well as the cultural guarantee for economic development.
